Mike McGeady
Harbormaster
Mike McGeady serves as the Harbormaster for the City of Baltimore, bringing decades of maritime experience and a deep personal connection to the City's waterfront. A native of Baltimore’s Keswick neighborhood, Harbormaster McGeady was raised in a family-run marine construction business based in Curtis Bay. From1944 until 2002, the McGeady family helped shape the City's shoreline - constructing key parts of today's Waterfront Promenade including Piers 5 and 6.
His professional journey spans both public and private sectors, including roles in construction management, business development and maritime consulting. With a lifelong dedication to civic service, Harbormaster McGeady got his early start interning at the former Baltimore Office of Promotion and Tourism during the development of Harborplace. He later served as a deckhand aboard Pride of Baltimore II, sailing across the Atlantic to Europe. He then served as Deputy Director of Pride of Baltimore, Inc., performing maritime logistics and crew support roles for Pride II's international itinerary.
Prior to his current appointment, Harbormaster McGeady served as President of Sail Baltimore, a not-for-profit organization that brings international tall ships, modern naval vessels and other sea service ships to Baltimore’s harbor for free public tours, education opportunities, and cultural exchange. Expanding Sail Baltimore's outreach and community programming, he served as chairman of the water logistics committee for recent maritime festivals such as the Star Spangled Spectacular and biennial Fleet Weeks.
Harbormaster McGeady holds a Master's degree in Administrative Science from Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School, a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Denison University, and a Project Management certificate from Cornell University. His appointment as Harbormaster reflects the City of Baltimore’s renewed investment in its working harbor and its role as a welcoming destination for boaters and maritime visitors.
